I can't believe that we have just a little over a month before summer arrives.  My favorite months are the summer ones, by far.  So, in honor of my favorite season I purchased a Fitbit.  I have been using it for just about a month now.

A Fitbit tracks your steps, calories, and sleep.  I use My Fitness Pal to count my daily calories and it connects with Fitbit.  It sends what I burn to my Fitness Pal account, so I can eat more if I choose to do so.

One of the goals of the Fitbit is to take 10,000 steps a day, which equals out to close to 5 miles depending on how big your stride is.  I thought this would be super easy because I never sit down during the day.  Boy, was I wrong.  The first week or two I was pretty sore.  After the second week I incorporated my weight lifting back in.  I was really sore, yet again.  It's been about a month, and the 10,000 step is very manageable now.

I have been feeling amazing.  I have quite a bit more energy.  I have been walking about 30 miles per week.  I also have been able to up my calories from 1200 to 1500, and still lose weight.  I love that aspect of it.

The Fitbit also keeps track of your sleep.  I didn't think this would be helpful, but it is.  I was trying some new medication and noticed that my sleep had changed to 9 hours a night.  I felt that was a bit excessive.  I advised my doctor about it and she switched my medication.  I am down now to 7 hours a night.  I feel great!

I found the sleep tracker to be a useful tool in watching your health.  If you notice a change in your sleeping pattern it might be time to seek medical attention.

Am I glad that I purchased the Fitbit?  Yes!  The only downfall is that it took me a good week to get the hang of snapping the wrist band back on.  It is waterproof, but I don't like to submerge it if I'm soaking in the tub.
