New Menu at Giulio and Sons Restaurant

Last week I was invited to try out the new menu at Giulio and Sons Restaurant. It is the on-site restaurant at adoba® hotel Dearborn/Detroit. It is in the same area as the Fairlane Town Center mall. This summer their new head chef Gabriel Vera and new sous chef Byron Payne Mills have created an exquisite new menu. The chefs did an excellent job of making a little of everything for us to try.
Walleye galantine, Caprese Salad, Homemade Mushroom Ravioli
After our garlic bread basket I enjoyed the Caprese Salad which offers sliced heirloom tomatoes, fresh baratta cheese, and garden basil with a dash of smoked sea salt and a delicate balsamic reduction drizzle. I liked it much better than the Walleye galantine.

If you stop by for lunch, be sure to try one of the “between the bread” sandwich selections. Including an all-beef patty burger, turkey burger, Bison Burger, Pulled Pork Sandwich, and Classic Club.

Miniature portobello burger, chimichurri sauce, roasted red peppers and Swiss cheese over toasted brioche
Pan seared trout with truffle risotto and green onion pesto
I loved the tasty mini burger. I also tried the vegetarian portobello mushroom burger. I have never had a mushroom only burger, but it was surprisingly good. Next we sampled trout & risotto. It didn't taste too fishy, like the walleye did. I am a big fan of the risotto, it was one of my favorite items. I would definitely order it again.

The entrée portion of the new Giulio & Sons menu is where Chef Vera really shows his skills. He has developed an array of items that stick true to Giulio & Sons long tradition of succulent Italian fare while integrating his unique personal flare. The Parmigiana Bianco Di Pollo is one of the Chef’s signature Italian offerings. The fettuccine pasta and white parmesan garlic cream for this dish are prepared to order, ensuring only the highest quality. The sauce itself is prepared with a rich, heavy cream that is reduced by half to intensify creaminess and flavor. Pair that with delicately prepared chicken breast and a pistachio pesto and you get a true taste of Italy! “Any pasta dish, if it’s coming out of the kitchen to our guest, is made in house. That’s the beauty of an Italian restaurant”, said Chef Vera. Other Italian selections include the Homemade Mushroom Ravioli, Gnocchi Rustico, and Lemon Parsley Risotto.

For our main course we had the Parmigiano Bianco Di Pollo.  It is described as a Refreshing Approach to the Classic Chicken Alfredo. Lightly Breaded Chicken Breast with Homemade Fettuccini, Pistachio Pesto, and White Parmesan Garlic Cream Sauce. I couldn't eat more than a few bites so I took the leftovers home for my husband to enjoy.

Finally we were able to visit the dessert buffet. I can not rave enough about the variety of delicious desserts. I loved the chocolate cake. I would go back just for the desserts.

Of course, it wouldn't be a true trip to Giulio & Sons without a tasty adult beverage to accompany your meal and the recently revamped wine list does not disappoint. The list includes several sparkling, white, and red varieties available by the glass or by the bottle that were hand-picked to accompany the new menu. Whether you are looking for a light Prosecco to cleanse the palette or a rich cabernet to accompany your entrée, the list here is sure to meet your needs.

I tried a lovely blush wine. They also serve Pepsi products, House Made Raspberry Ice Tea, lemonade, coffee, and more.

Whether you are staying at adoba® hotel or are just enjoying a culinary tour of the Detroit area, a trip to Giulio & Sons is an absolute must! The new menu offers a refreshing change and creative twist on Italian fare that simply cannot be found anywhere else in the area. Combined with a relaxing ambiance and professional service makes for an evening with friends and family that won’t soon be forgotten. Be sure to check out the new menu at Giulio & Sons during your next visit to Detroit.
