Why do I love Salute to America so much? It's a feeling for me. It's the beautiful feeling of being proud to be American and give thanks to all that have died defending this country. I seriously am moved to tears each year.
There is nothing like experiencing the cannons during the Overture of 1812. It is truly a majestic feeling. Putting into words is hard the feeling that comes over me during this song.
The firework show is amazing year after year.
"Red, white and blue-festooned buildings; classic summer tastes; fifes and drums and fireflies are the backdrop for the most robust expression of the Fourth of July — connecting with family, friends and neighbors to honor the great American experiment. Community goodwill fills Greenfield Village as picnic blankets and chairs are assembled for the joint concert by the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and the Jazz Ambassadors of the United States Army Field Band, the premier touring musical representatives of the United States Army. The finale is the DSO’s stirring rendition of Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture, played in harmony with authentic cannon fire under a canopy of fireworks.
