Yesterday I was lucky enough to preview the fantastic new ‘1001 Inventions’ exhibit at the Michigan Science Center. Detroit is only the fourth location in the U.S. to be able to feature it, and it’s been out of the country for the last five years! I can’t wait to head back with my family and experience it again.

1001 Inventions is a wonderful and enlightening journey through a golden age of civilization from Spain to China starting in the 7th century. Visitors have a front row seat to learn about the exciting scientific and cultural achievements of men and women of various faiths and cultures and their contributions to our modern world during the golden age of Muslim Civilization.
My favorites of the more than 60 displays within the exhibit were those with costumed actors/actresses portraying the real inventors who tell you about their discoveries and their life and answer any questions you may have. Who doesn’t love hands-on? Genuinely interactive is even better! I also really enjoyed reading the displays that included information about the real people behind the inventions, and especially, the medical discoveries. The exhibit is fun for children ages 7 or 8 and older. It primarily targets those of secondary school ages. It’s definitely enjoyable for adults as well.

The facts:
