Detroit Zoo Gift Ideas & Membership Giveaway

Mom Among Chaos received a membership to facilitate this post. All opinions are 100% my own.

By giving to the Detroit Zoological Society, you can make a real difference in Celebrating and Saving Wildlife. From large transformative gifts with outcomes like the Arctic Ring of Life and Cotton Family Wetlands to general support that helps us provide memorable experiences and rich education programs, gifts of all kinds are important to the current and future success of the Detroit Zoological Society.

The Detroit Zoological Society (DZS) offers many gift ideas that allow the giver to give twice – recipients will love their “zoonique” gifts and the proceeds from sales will help support the animals at the Detroit Zoo.

Membership has its privileges. A Detroit Zoo membership provides a year’s supply of “Vitamin Z” with free daytime admission and parking to the Detroit Zoo and Belle Isle Nature Center, discounts at Zoo gift shops and many other benefits.
  • Prices range from $53 to $160.
  • Residents of Macomb, Oakland, and Wayne counties receive $10 off all categories and can purchase up to four gift memberships at the discounted rate.

Advance ticket sales to Summer Safari, Wild Beasts Wild Wine, Zoo Brew, Zoo Boo and Wild Lights

Reasons to Become a Member

1.     Unlimited Admission for One Year
a.     Even if you visit a couple of times a year, it is worth it financially to get a membership to the zoo.  Being a member lifts a huge weight off your shoulders as far as your expectations for each visit.  As a member, you no longer feel that you have to see the whole zoo in one day.

Being a member allows you to visit the zoo at your leisure and pace your visit based on your children's ability, mood, the weather, your schedule, etc.  And the Zoo is open year round, making it a perfect place to go in the winter when you have cabin fever.

2.     Free Parking
a.     Along with free admission, you can park at no charge when you are a member.

3.     Zoo Member Entrance
a.      You can use the member's entrance, which is located at the west end of the bus lot. There is a little kiosk where you check in and then you go under the train tracks and enter the park just west of the Ford Education Building near the fountains.  This saves you time and energy.

4.     Great Learning Resource
a.     You could go online and check out information about animals, but there is something about seeing animals right in front of you that makes the information stick a bit better.

Each visit allows children and adults to learn something new and see something new.  Read a sign that wasn’t read or a fun fact that wasn’t heard before.  The Zoo is a learning experience for everyone.  From biology to conservation to even map reading skills, there is a lot to be gained from a trip to the zoo.

5.     Discounts
    1. 10% off regular-priced merchandise at gift shops and stands
    2. Discounts on classes vary
c.     With your membership to the Detroit Zoo, you will receive a discount to Zoos all across the United States.

6.     Advanced Ticket Sales
a.     The Detroit Zoo offers a lot of fun and special events throughout the year.  Many of the events sell out quickly, but being a member gives you a chance to get tickets before the Zoo opens sales to the public.  A great perk when you are looking to attend Zoo Boo or Wild Lights on a peak day.
