Planes Fire and Rescue Review

“Planes: Fire & Rescue” is a new comedy-adventure about second chances, featuring a dynamic crew of elite firefighting aircraft devoted to protecting historic Piston Peak National Park from raging wildfire. When world famous air racer Dusty (voice of Dane Cook) learns that his engine is damaged and he may never race again, he must shift gears and is launched into the world of aerial firefighting. Dusty joins forces with veteran fire and rescue helicopter Blade Ranger and his courageous team, including spirited super scooper Dipper (voice of Julie Bowen), heavy-lift helicopter Windlifter, ex-military transport Cabbie and a lively bunch of brave all-terrain vehicles known as The Smokejumpers. Together, the fearless team battles a massive wildfire and Dusty learns what it takes to become a true hero. Directed by Bobs Gannaway (“Secret of the Wings”), “Planes: Fire & Rescue” is currently showing in theaters in 3D. (WALT DISNEY PICTURES) This film is rated PG.

Last summer I took my youngest daughter to see Disney's Planes. You can read my previous review here. Last Friday I rented the movie from Redbox for the whole family to watch together. This week I took my two daughters (7 & 11) to a 3D pre-screening of Planes: Fire & Rescue. I liked it better than the original Planes. I am more interested in heroes like firefighters saving people, than racers and racing. Dusty the plane started out as a crop duster, then he became a racer, and now he has found his place as an aerial firefighter. There were plenty of laughs for children and adults alike. My daughters couldn't even pick a favorite part because they enjoyed the whole movie. My youngest described it as, "amazing and awesome!" It should be just as good in a regular viewing as it is in 3D. I highly recommend you take your family this summer.

If you are looking for a fun family night out I suggest the Compuware arena drive-in in Plymouth, MI. We go there once every summer for a night the kids can stay up late. We bring our camp chairs, pillows, blankets, and our own drinks and snacks. Then we sit around the tailgate or in the trunk area of our van to watch the show on the big screen.

Here are the showings for 7/18-7/24:
