#MonkeyKingdom Set in the storied jungles of South Asia, “Monkey Kingdom” showcases the adventures of new mom Maya, a clever and resourceful blonde-bobbed monkey who’s determined to give her son a leg up in the world.
While we were on vacation in Colorado we missed the early press screening of MONKEY KINGDOM. My youngest daughter, who is 8 and a half years old, loved BEARS so much last year that she just had to see this new Disneynature movie on opening day. Since we went during opening week (April 17-23) Disneynature made a donation in our honor to Conservation International to help protect monkeys and other endangered species in their natural habitats.

It was a cute movie and my daughter enjoyed it. Our favorite parts were when the monkeys were acting silly, the adorable baby monkeys, the cinematography, and the music. There is one part where the monkeys crash a child's birthday party while the kids are outside playing. They eat all the cake & make a mess in the kitchen. It was funny but my daughter said she felt bad for the birthday kid. Another part that I liked was when the monkeys were chasing millions of flying insects. With the setting sun making their wings glow it was actually really beautiful. They also show some underwater views of the monkeys swimming around in this lily pad pond that was pretty cool to watch.

There are a few things to keep in mind for sensitive viewers. The older monkeys sometimes slap the baby monkeys. There are rival groups of monkeys so there are a couple fight scenes. Two monkeys die but they aren't gruesome deaths. Also, from the very beginning of the movie they show a lot of monkey nipples.

I liked how Tina Fey narrated the movie and that it was a good length nature film. I didn't like that the movie was about ranking and class, with the lower class monkeys being treated badly. I have to say I liked Bears better. If you are a big fan of monkeys definitely go see it in the theater but if not then maybe wait for it on blu-ray/DVD.

Life is an adventure for Maya, the clever and resourceful blonde-bobbed monkey in “Monkey Kingdom,” Disneynature’s new feature film set among ancient ruins in the storied jungles of South Asia. Maya’s world is forever changed when she welcomes her son, Kip, into her complicated extended family. Like all families, Maya’s has more than its share of colorful personalities—and she’s determined to give her son a leg up in the world. When their longtime home at Castle Rock is taken over by powerful neighboring monkeys, Maya's whole family retreats, and she uses her street smarts and ingenuity to uncover untapped resources amidst strange new creatures and unsettling surroundings. Ultimately, they will all have to work together to reclaim Castle Rock, where Maya can hopefully realize her dreams for her son’s future. Featuring a rich variety of characters, including a mischievous mongoose, simple-minded langur monkeys, predatory leopards and monitor lizards, “Monkey Kingdom” is narrated by Tina Fey (“30 Rock”), directed by Mark Linfield (“Chimpanzee,” “Earth”) and co-directed by Alastair Fothergill (“Chimpanzee,” “Bears”). With music from award-winning composer Harry Gregson-Williams ("The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe," “Shrek” movies), Disneynature’s eighth True Life  Adventure—the follow-up to 2014’s “Bears”—is swinging into theaters now.

MONKEY KINGDOM is now playing in theatres everywhere!
