What to Eat When You Have the Stomach Flu

Always consult your doctor first. These are my opinions and are not meant to replace a professional. This blog contains affiliate links.
My 8-year-old daughter is suffering from a stomach bug. Thankfully, it's not a full-blown stomach bug. Last March we all ended up with the stomach flu, which included a hospital visit. Hopefully, this is a quick bug because she has been sick a ton this year.

If you're throwing up, do not eat solids for at least 8 hours. You must be able to keep liquid down for 8 hours. If you can't keep anything down, try eating a few ice chips and then gradually increase your fluids. A few good options to settle the stomach are ginger ale and warm Coke. Make sure you get plenty of liquids, this can include Gatorade, Pedialyte, popsicles, or even water.

If you're feeling up to eating, stick with bland foods. In my household pretzels and Jell-O are favorites. Other good options include plain rice, toast, crackers, bananas, and applesauce.

If you throw up after eating the above, you need to go back to no solids for 8 hours.

If vomiting lasts more than three days or diarrhea lasts more than two weeks contact your doctor immediately.

What foods would you add to the list?
